During the final APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM), senior officials discussed issues under the APEC 2022 theme “Open, Connect, Balance,” with highlights including the latest state of the Bangkok Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Goals Project on the Economy and the Multi-Year Work Plan on the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area (FTAAP).

BANGKOK, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) — Senior Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) officials concluded a two-day meeting in BANGKOK on Wednesday focusing on common interests and aspirations to advance cooperation for the prosperity of all. .

During the final APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM), senior officials discussed issues under the APEC 2022 theme “Open, Connect, Balance,” with highlights including the latest state of the Bangkok Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economic Goals Project and the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area (FTAAP) Multi-Year Work Plan, said Thani Thongphakdi, Chairman of the APEC 2022 SOM, during a press conference.

The Bangkok goals cover climate change mitigation, sustainable trade and investment, environmental conservation and waste management, he said, adding that these goals will be implemented through a enabling regulatory framework, capacity building, quality facilities and infrastructure, and a global network.

The FTAAP Multi-Year Work Plan, one of the main deliverables of the APEC host year in Thailand, will help lead the region towards a more sustainable and inclusive economic recovery and long-term resilience against future pandemics and other disruptions, Thani said.

This year has seen three SOMs in February, May and August, respectively, and the November meeting is the last in this year’s SOM series.
